BUILDING AN ARCH WITH CEMENT STABILIZED BRICKS.

Decorative Arches are easy to be built using the standard rectangular Cement stabilized bricks. These Arches do not require Iron rods reinforcement like it is with Arches made with concrete materials. Once the wooden or metal form work is in place, the Bricks are laid in a bed of Sand and Cement, the end result are made to under go the mandatory curing for 2weeks before the wooden or metal form work are removed and the arch is finally dressed.

SUBSTITUTION OF BRICKS FOR GERMAN FLOOR IN RESIDENTIAL BUILDINGS.

It is very common in the building industry to hear the terminology that people use to describe the flooring of houses. German floor simply define the construction of the floors of houses using the combination of Gravel, Sand and Cement called Concrete. This aspect of the building can be costly and expensive.  Bolyn constructions company limited have a design of a brick called Floor brick that can be made using our multi purpose brick press. The material composition of these Floor bricks are Cement and Laterite soil in a ratio of 1:10, which make the bricks stronger than the walling bricks. Walling bricks are usually made with 1:20 Cement to Laterite soil combination. The thickness of such Floor bricks is about 40mm and 50mm. These bricks are laid in the floor of a house in a bed of Cement to sand composition after the floor have been previously rammed level. The floor can now be finished off by either rendering or tiling with Ceramic tiles. the use of Floor bricks is capable of resulting in substantial cost savings.

PLUMBING AND ELECTRICAL CONDUIT PIPES AND WIRE FIXING.

The above topics have continued to generate lots of interest among new entrants into the field of Cement stabilized bricks construction. We are able to confirm that the conduit work on a Cement stabilized brick structure with pipes that are about 50mm[2″] into a wall of 140mm[approx.6″] width and pipes of up to 100mm[4”] on a wall with a width of 230mm[9”] give satisfactory results. In the same vein,  Electrical Engineer and Technician are able to install their electrical pipes and wires within any of the walls of stabilized bricks. It is confirmed that brick laying can be done in the normal way after which the Plumber or Electrician mark out the lines of conduit. These lines are thereafter chiselled out to accommodate the pipe works. The Mason will finally dress up these lines upon the completion of the pipe work.

FIXING AND NAILING ON CEMENT STABILIZED WALLS.

There will be need to have some decorations and fixtures hanged on the walls of a Cement stabilized bricks. Experience have shown that we needed Tornado nails called Concrete nails to nail or fix objects to the walls.

PLASTERING OF CEMENT STABILIZED BRICK WALLS.

Some persons do need to plaster their Cement stabilized brick walls for one reason or the other e.g. the internal of their living accommodation. The walls of  stabilized bricks can be plastered, ensure that such walls have rough surfaces before plastering with Cement and Sand mortar. People have desired to know why some plaster work do get detached or fall off from the face of  Cement stabilized walls, the answer to this could be attributed to the non provision of DPC- Damp proof course on top of your sub structure–foundation, an act that allow movements of ground water in your walls all through the year. Lack of DPC is one of the major cause for the detachment of the plastered work on bricks.

FIXING AND LAYING OF CERAMIC TILES.

We have heard people ask us whether Wall tiles or Floor tiles will hold on to the surface of the Cement stabilized bricks, the answer is Yes, it does hold perfectly. My experience about the ones that was installed in my house sine 1993 is very pleasant. Every one of them on both the floors and walls are in very good condition.
